Narrated Salman radee Allaahu 'anhu Allaah's Messenger salaa Allaahu alayhi was salam said, "Your Lord is Magnificent and Generous and ashamed to turn away empty the hands of a slave when he raises them [2] to Him." [Al-Araba'a except An-Nasa'i reported it; Al-Hakim graded it sahih (sound)]
This Hadith states the raising of the one's hands while making supplication, is a Sunnah (a supererogatory act).
Some reminders that I have come across that were so thought provoking I decided to keep a virtual book of benefits...

Benefits of the Sunnah prayers
Narrater Umm Habiba رضى الله عنها (the mother of the believers) She heard the Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم say, "Whoever prays twelve (voluntary) Rak'at in a day and in a night, a house will be built for him in Paradise with them (the Rak'at)." Muslim... In another version, it is mentioned "voluntarily."
At Tirmidhi reported the same and added: four rak'at before Thur, and two rak'at after it, two after Maghrib, two rak'at after Isha' and two before the Fajr prayer.
And in another version of Al-Khamsa, by her ('Aisha رضى الله عنها)"Whoever prays regularly four rak'at before Thur and four rak'at after Thur Allah will forbid for him Hell-Fire
